​World Archery was founded as the Fédération Internationale de Tir à l'Arc (FITA) in 1931 in Lviv, Ukraine, then part of Poland and called Lwów, with the express mission of standardizing international rules for the sport and getting archery back on the Olympic program.
Seven countries participated in the founding, including the USA, and today the federation represents 160 nations and 30 million shooters in total.
This commemorative plaque stands on the city hall in Lviv today.
At the moment, Lviv is a city of nearly a million people, and is the main staging ground for those seeking to escape the attack on Ukraine, as well as sending fighters to the east of the country to engage the aggressors.
This city is inextricably tied to the Olympic status of our sport, and those of us in the archery community and Olympic movement should take note.

Світова стрільба з лука була заснована як Fédération Internationale de Tir à l'Arc (FITA) у 1931 році у Львові, Україна, тоді частина Польщі та називалася Lwów, з чіткою місією стандартизації міжнародних правил для цього виду спорту та повернення стрільби з лука на Олімпійські ігри.

У заснуванні брали участь сім країн, у тому числі США, і сьогодні федерація представляє 160 націй і 30 мільйонів стрільців. Ця меморіальна дошка сьогодні стоїть на Ратуші у Львові.
На даний момент Львів – це мільйонне місто, яке є основним майданчиком для тих, хто прагне уникнути нападу на Україну, а також направити бійців на схід країни для боротьби з агресором.
Це місто нерозривно пов’язане з олімпійським статусом нашого виду спорту, і ми, члени спільноти стрільби з лука та олімпійського руху, повинні пам'ятати про це.
