The first soldiers of the French Foreign Legion, who will fight on the side of Ukraine, have already been deployed near Slavyansk.

The advance detachment consists of a hundred men - they are artillerymen and scouts. They have been recruited from the 3rd Infantry Regiment, former US assistant deputy defence secretary Stephen Bryen claims in an Asian Times article.

The total number of fighters France will send to Ukraine may reach about 1,500.
