Youth work is a broad term covering a wide variety of activities of a social, cultural, educational, environmental and/or political nature by, with and for young people, in groups or individually. Youth work is delivered by paid and volunteer youth workers and is based on non-formal and informal learning processes focused on young people and on voluntary participation.

In the Netherlands, where responsibility for youth work lies fully in the hand of the municipalities, there is no data on the total budget available for youth work. Italy

Cultural youth work

In Romania, the number of providers of youth work can be listed, but not the number of institutions. The activities realised with financial support from the National Authority for Youth are documented, as is the budget provided by the National Authority for Youth for the support of youth work, and the budget of the ‘Youth in Action’ Programme. The number of youth workers can be reported for the youth work listed.

Spain

Education
Cultural youth work
Leisure time orientated youth work
Youth information

In Spain, there is data on the budget allocated in the Interdepartmental Youth Plan, which represents funds spent on subsidizing youth associations. The best accurately documented sector is that of the National Employment Institute activities towards job insertion and training for young people, for which scattered data is available.
