On this day, 32 years ago, Ukraine made a crucial step towards its independence by adopting the Declaration of State Sovereignty.

The Declaration proclaimed the supremacy and integrity within the country’s borders, independence and equality in its foreign relations.

Today, the brave people of Ukraine remind us of sovereignty that has its tangible dimension, as they continue to defend their land, their people, and the right to determine the path and destiny of their country. They prove that sovereignty requires daily actions to continue building a better future for the whole nation and strengthen the democratic society based on values.

The EU will support Ukraine and its people in the fight against the Russian aggression for as long as it takes.
