2021-01-26 14:19:09 A PhD position open in my group at Kapteyn Astronomical Institute, at the University of Groningen.

The project, funded by the Dutch Research Council (NWO), aims at carrying out the analysis of the data collected by AMS-02, searching for the CR antideuterons. The goal of this project is twofold: search for antideuterons with AMS-02 data, and understand the implications of the result in terms of DM and early-universe cosmology.
This position is funded for 48 months, and comes with travel funding to attend conferences, summer schools, network meetings and training courses.
The preferential starting date is September 1st, but different starting dates can be considered.
Applications received by March 12th will receive full consideration. Details about the requirements and the application procedure can be found in the attached document.

2021-01-21 18:33:02 PhD and postdoctoral positions in “Observation and Astrophysics of Compact-binary Mergers” at AEI Hannover

The Division of Observational Relativity and Cosmology at the Albert Einstein Institute in Hannover invites applications from outstanding graduate students and postdoctoral scientists interested in using open gravitational-wave data to further our understanding of astrophysics, gravity and the Universe. The division is led by Prof. Bruce Allen and senior scientist Dr. Alexander Nitz. The Albert Einstein Institute in Hannover plays an active role in the analysis and interpretation of gravitational-wave data, and provides a lively and friendly environment and world-class computing facilities. More information can be found at http://www.aei.mpg.de/obs-rel-cos.

The ideal candidate should have an excellent academic track record and experience with computer programming. Prior experience in gravitational wave data analysis would be helpful but is not a requirement. Applications including a CV, publication list and a brief research statement should be submitted by email to jobs-gw-han@aei.mpg.de by Feb 15th, 2021. Candidates should also arrange that three letters of reference be sent to jobs-gw-han@aei.mpg.de by the referees. Applications will be considered as they are received and the start date is flexible.

We value diversity and therefore welcome all applications - irrespective of gender, nationality, skin colour, origin, religion and ideology, disability, age, sexual orientation and identity.

2021-01-06 17:22:29 Call for 6-year research contracts in Portugal

For the fourth consecutive year, the portuguese research funding body is opening a call for 6-year research contracts in portuguese institutions. The contracts are at 4 different levels (from ‘postdoc’ to the equivalent of a non-tenured full professor). This year’s call will be open from 29 January 2021 to 26 February 2021, 5 p.m. (Lisbon time).

The Phenomenology group at LIP will be looking to support (act as host) applications we consider to have a serious chance of being successful and with a project that fits our goals (broadly speaking LHC and astroparticle phenomenology). While previous calls have proven very competitive with a success rate (contracts awarded / number of applicants) below 10%, the very high quality of candidates we supported allowed the group to secure one contract on each past call and, to a certain extent, defeat the dire statistics.

If you are aware of anyone that could be interested in applying please do let me know (or ask them to contact me directly). Please keep in mind that the decision process is long and thus successful candidates should not expect to be able to start their contract earlier that 12-15 months after application.
