The lights on the country's main Christmas tree - the "Christmas Tree of Invincibility" - were officially lit on Sophia Square in Kyiv.
"There must be a Christmas tree! Our children must have a holiday! Despite all the efforts of the Russian barbarians to deprive Ukrainians of the joy of Christmas and New Year." - wrote the city’s Mayor, Vitalii Klychko, in his telegram channel.
