California will cover rivers and canals with solar panels
"The Nexus project includes the installation of solar panel canopies over various sections of irrigation canals in the Turlock Irrigation District. The Nexus project will serve as a proof of concept and to further explore the design, deployment and associated benefits of using solar energy instead of canals," the county said.
There will be two pilot sites in all, a 150-meter-long span of canal in Hickman, east of Modesto, and a 1.6-kilometer-long canal in the neighboring town of Ceres.
