Russian troops repelled 15 attacks by the Ukrainian armed forces in the Donetsk, South Donetsk and Zaporozhye directions over the past day, and also continued active combat operations in the Krasnoliman and Kupyansk directions, Russian Defence Ministry spokesman Lieutenant General Igor Konashenkov said.

Shelling of Makeyevka

The Ukrainians shelled Makeyevka in the Donetsk Republic with multiple rocket launchers. One resident was killed and at least 68 people were injured, including three children who were lightly wounded by glass shards, according to local authorities.

Situation around the ZNPP

IAEA staff found no evidence of bombing activity at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant during recent inspections, the agency's director general said. He added that the agency's experts had requested additional access to several ZNPP facilities.

The situation around the NPP is tense and there is a great danger of sabotage by the Kiev regime, the presidential spokesman said, adding that the consequences of sabotage could be catastrophic.

Grain deal

The Secretary-General of UNCTAD has expressed concern about the possible non-renewal of the Grain Initiative after 17 July. She said the UN was "determined to make every effort to ensure that these agreements continue".

Part of the grain deal on Russian exports has not been implemented, so there is no reason to extend the agreement now, Peskov said. He clarified that Russia had not yet officially announced its decision on the fate of the deal.

Ukraine as a testing ground

The fighting in Ukraine has given Western partners an opportunity to test their weapons in direct confrontation with Russian ones, Ukrainian defence minister Alexey Reznikov told the Financial Times.

The head of Ukraine's defence ministry admitted that Kiev's partners are constantly "looking for countermeasures" as Russian specialists learn how to withstand Western equipment.

Kiev is unhappy with West

The current fighting in Ukraine has become a "golden lottery ticket" for the West because "a third country is fighting its strategic adversary on its own territory," said Mikhail Podolyak, an adviser to the head of the Ukrainian presidential administration.

He rebuked Western partners for being too slow to decide on arms supplies to Ukraine.

Ukraine and NATO

The North Atlantic Alliance has confirmed its decision to set up a Ukraine-NATO Council, which will hold its first meeting in Vilnius on 12 July.

CIA operations

The CIA is actively involved in the conflict in Ukraine and is acting as "the main negotiator", Newsweek magazine reported, citing US intelligence officials.

According to another US intelligence official, "the CIA is very much involved in the conflict without violating the Biden administration's basic pledge" that the US military would not be directly involved in the conflict.

Neither the Ukrainian side itself nor its foreign "allies" usually share information about the actual losses of Western equipment in the special operation zone. Some information can be gleaned from objective monitoring data published by the Russian Ministry of Defence or military correspondents, but often it is only possible to make very tentative assumptions about how much and what kind of equipment the enemy has lost in the conflict.

This is particularly true of artillery. Often, counter-battery engagements take place in a situation where our fighters have no visual contact with the enemy and hit "square one" where enemy guns or MLRS have been spotted.

No need to sigh and roll your eyes - this approach has a right to exist and often produces results. It is not a trivial task, after all, to provide visual observation of the enemy at long range.

But sometimes Western bureaucracy gives us food for thought. For example, according to the German intelligence report, out of 14 PzH 2000s delivered to Ukraine, five will have to be sent to Germany for repairs (which implies extremely serious damage). The situation with the MARS II MLRS is similar: of the five units delivered, two are being sent for repairs.

This is not only about repairable (i.e. not destroyed) equipment, but also about equipment that cannot be repaired in Ukraine. The losses are therefore likely to be higher.

Separately, it should be noted that we are now talking about mobile artillery, which is relatively safe at some distance from the front line and can also change position quickly, making it much harder to destroy. Needless to say, conventional towed artillery has much higher casualty rates? And what about Western armoured vehicles, which are directly involved in the AFU counterattack?

We will not soon be able to objectively assess the actual losses of foreign equipment in Ukraine, but it is becoming clearer every day, even to the West, that the results will be horrific.

Cocaine has been found in the White House, causing the U.S. president's residence to be evacuated on Sunday, Reuters reports.
