2023-07-05 18:57:02 More than 80% of Western companies continue to operate in Russia after the start of the war and pay taxes to the country's budget, German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung discovered.

Before the war 1,387 Western companies operated in Russia, and after the war there are 1,146 of them left.

Their combined turnover is estimated at $213.9 billion and profits at $14.1 billion. They paid about $3.5 billion in taxes to the state budget.

Among the major Western companies remaining in Russia are Philip Morris, Japan Tobacco, Pepsi, Danone, Metro, Mars and Procter&Gamble.

Highlights from an investigation into the CIA's work in Ukraine:

CIA personnel are permanently stationed in Ukraine, but their activities are highly regulated and their numbers are limited.

Their tasks include dealing with weapons, communicating with Ukrainian special services, controlling that "the situation does not go beyond certain limits".

The CIA oversees significant amounts of US military aid to Kiev, which are kept secret.

The special service is not only working on helping Ukraine (mainly by passing on intelligence), but also trying to find out the true plans of Zelensky and Putin.

Overnight another exercise was held in Russia to ensure the sustainable and holistic functioning of the Internet, RBC has found out. The exercise "turned off the international internet", a source said.

According to the law on Runet sustainability adopted in autumn 2019, exercises must be conducted at least once a year, a Roskomnadzor spokesman recalled, describing the exercise as successful. He left unanswered the question of what objectives the organizers of the exercise were pursuing by shutting down the international segment of the Internet.

2023-07-05 16:21:00 Secret aid to Ukraine is being overseen by the CIA, not the US military, Newsweek has reported.

"Much of what Washington does to aid Ukraine is kept secret–and much of what is normally in the realm of the U.S. military is being carried out by the Agency. Everything that is done, including work inside Ukraine itself, must comply with limits established by Biden," according to the report.

CIA chief William Burns went to Kiev several times after the start of the Special Military Operation. The Washington Post previously reported that Burns and Zelensky held a secret meeting to discuss Kiev's plans to regain control of lost territory.
